The best new premium detecting pick, which has dubbed the ProPick, is a modification of the standard HODAN PICK with the addition of a 14 gauge cold rolled 5" X 4 ¾" shovel blade. This blade has rolled edges to eliminate sharp corners for ease of handling and to retain more dirt when scooping out a hole; a very useful tool when digging in sand or gravel. Even better, the entire pick weighs a mere 3 pounds!
All HODAN PICKS are 100% American made, and handcrafted in Arizona from cold rolled carbon steel. The handles are American Hickory from Arkansas (approx. 24" long) and are individually fitted to each pick and secured with a safety wedge and iron rivet. After all welding is completed the pick heads are heat treated through the carbonization process to produce a surface hardness of Rc 52-55 (tool bits are Rc 60) to a depth of 0.030. This produces a hard wear resistant surface while maintaining a softer core to absorb shock. After heat treat the picks are cleaned by bead blasting and then gold zinc plated to resist rust. All picks come standard with a trash recovery magnet built into the bottom of the handle.
